Jaguars stand to be one of the most famous of the world’s big cats, with its speed and prowess classically utilized by ancient and modern human civilizations as a symbol of strength and power.
Physically characterized with spots all over the body, jaguars are typically mistaken for leopards, whose spotted reputation is attributed to the old saying “A leopard never changes its spots”, but are different from them in the sense that the spot patterns of leopards and jaguars are different from each other.
The 2012 released Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted featured a jaguar character in Gia, a character whom Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo met when they came across the Circus Zaragoza in Europe.
With the movie essentially delving into the story of how escaped New York Central Park Zoo animals found themselves trying to get back to the zoo, the third Madagascar film delved into the world of circus animals, visiting different parts of Europe as the story’s plot continued to trail on.
As a big cat, jaguars are classified as a near threatened species, with their numbers dwindling down due to the loss of their natural habitats. Also threatened by rampant poaching practices, the furs of jaguars are still considered as high value products in poaching syndicates based in different parts of the world.
With jaguars found in most of the Americas, their prevalence in South America is quite well established. Once believed to have prowled Asia some two million years ago, they continue to be symbols of strength and power until today, not only revered by different cultures but also respected by different brand names who are keen on acknowledging the strength of the jaguar.
